UIBK Website

Tomáš works on mathematical aspects of interdisciplinary topics that bridge gaps between fields such as physics, philosophy and computer science. His recent work focuses on the foundations of quantum theory as well as the use of category theory in the study of probability, statistics, and quantum resources. He is an ambassador of tea culture and spends a lot of free time in the mountains.

Johannes Fankhauser

PostDoc

Personal Website

Johannes works on foundations and philosophy of quantum mechanics. He obtained his PhD from the University of Oxford where he studied quantum paradoxes, observability, predictability, and indeterminacy in quantum and post-quantum theories. Before starting his doctorate, he earned a Master's degree in philosophy of physics from Oxford and a Master's degree in physics from ETH Zurich, where he also completed his undergraduate studies in physics. Johannes has a passion for working with individuals who share his enthusiasm for ideas that draw upon creative thinking in physics, philosophy, mathematics, and computer science. He is committed to promoting education and fostering talent and organizes courses and summer schools on quantum mechanics for gifted pupils. He co-initiated the Austrian Study Foundation, which helps intellectually talented students develop their potential.

Johanna Frischauf

PostDoc

Johanna.Frischauf@uibk.ac.at

Johanna studied mathematics at the University of Innsbruck. She wrote her master's thesis in the field of algebra. As part of her doctoral thesis, she worked at the Unit of Geometry and Surveying at the Department of Basic Sciences in Engineering Sciences. She studied multi-parametric rational motions and used tools from algebra for their representation. In her leisure time, she is always up to playing an exciting game of chess.

Mirte works on problems related to positivity of tensors and computational complexity. She likes teaching and giving talks and plays an active role in organizing activities for the group. Her dream is to give the lectures for a university course and help many students to understand abstract ideas. Whenever she is not working you can be sure to find her somewhere high up in the mountains, or else baking pancakes.

With his background in gravitational physics Tobias main research objective now consists of a much broader area within mathematical physics. After his PhD he aspires to work full-time as a scientist. If he's not doing physics, he is also very interested in all kinds of sports especially those that take place in the mountains around Innsbruck.

Engel

Master Student

My biggest hobbies are spending time in the mountains, either hiking and mountain biking in the summer, or skiing and going on tours during the cold months. Besides that, music is a big passion of mine and I love both listening and making music by myself or with friends.

Stefan Kremminger

Master Student

Stefan is working on his Master thesis, applying category theory to answer probabilistic questions in quantum information.  Enjoying the interdisciplinary spirit of the group, he helps tutoring different mathematics lectures for the undergrad students. When not on campus he spends his time hiking, with a good book or his electric guitar.
